Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.

Playing and learning are equally important and reinforce one another.
Our preschool has both a Montessori room and a Play room (gym). We encourage students to take what they’ve discovered in one area and apply it in the other. In so doing, the social, emotional, academic and physical aspects of learning come together to benefit the whole child. Children choose their own activities while encouraged to participate in all aspects of our program. Read more about the Montessori philosophy here.
In the Montessori room we use the Montessori approach (observe and assist) to encourage hands-on investigation for five general skills:
- Practical Life Skills
- Geography and Science
The Play room provides lots of space for your child to learn through valuable, open-ended free play. Each week new materials are set up based on children’s interests, creative ideas and natural curiosity. Our day often includes:
- Art Experiences
- Dancing and Singing
- Dramatic play and Dress-up
- Gross Motor and Active Play
- Sensory play
- Science activities
- Circles and Storytelling
“ My son has benefitted from this program in so many ways, I can’t wait for my daughter to attend.”
—Megan Burns, parent
About The Montessori Philosophy
The Montessori philosophy is an educational philosophy for children, based on theories of child development developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator. The first Montessori classroom was established in the early 20th century, and the ideas, based on scientific observation, are still completely valid today, over a hundred years later. The Montessori method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child, and observation on the part of the teacher (often called a director, directress, or guide). The Montessori philosophy stresses the importance of adapting the child’s learning environment to his or her developmental level, and of the role of physical activity in absorbing abstract concepts and practical skills. It is also characterized by the use of self-correcting materials for the introduction and learning of various concepts.
“From the moment the child enters the classroom, each step in his education is seen as a progressive building block, ultimately forming the whole person, in the emergence from childhood to adult. All focus is on the needs of the child.”
—The Essential Montessori: An Introduction to the Woman, the Writings, the Method, and the Movement, Elizabeth G. Hainstock, 1997
Programs & Tuition
If your child is between 2 ½ and 6 years old and toilet trained (excluding children with special needs) they meet the criteria to attend Lindsay Centre for Preschool Enrichment. Registration for September enrollment starts as early as April.
Throughout the day, children have the opportunity to explore and learn in three different environments, working with one staff member for every 8 children. A hot, healthy lunch is provided each day in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide. After lunch, children participate in a quiet time to rejuvenate their minds and bodies. During this time, children select from a variety of quiet activities such as reading, drawing, puzzles, and much more. Children are NOT required to sleep during this time.
