Where imagination grows

Our aim is to help the child understand, not force her to memorize, and so to touch her imagination as to enthuse her to her innermost core.

About Us
Our History

The Lindsay Centre for Preschool Enrichment (Lindsay Montessori Preschool) has had the pleasure of working with children from Lindsay and surrounding areas for over 40 years. Many studies discuss the importance of early brain stimulation and its benefits for years to come. A child’s brain develops most rapidly between 0 to 6 years of age. Our program assists children to develop the concepts needed for a good foundation prior to grade one.

Our Philosophy
We feel that every child is a strong and unique individual who is capable of learning through his/her own curiosity and experiences. In a loving, calm, and safe atmosphere, we support the children in their own discovery and facilitate their growth on an individual basis in all areas of development.

We believe that it is our role, as Early Childhood Educators, to offer a stimulating environment that provides children with an opportunity to express their creativity, curiosity, and adventurous nature.  It is our also our role to facilitate and assist each child in a way that encourages self-esteem, independence, and a love for learning.  As educators, we must also value a love of learning, as we continue to grow both with the children and as individuals.

Maria Montessori
The Montessori philosophy is an educational philosophy for children, based on theories of child development developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and educator. The first Montessori classroom was established in the early 20th century, and the ideas, based on scientific observation, are still completely valid today, over a hundred years later. The Montessori method is characterized by an emphasis on self-directed activity on the part of the child, and observation on the part of the teacher (often called a director, directress, or guide). The Montessori philosophy stresses the importance of adapting the child’s learning environment to his or her developmental level, and of the role of physical activity in absorbing abstract concepts and practical skills. It is also characterized by the use of self-correcting materials for the introduction and learning of various concepts.
Our Goal, Values, Quick Facts, and Links

“All things are easy to understand once they are discovered. The point is to discover them.”

—Galileo Galilei

“The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.'”

—Maria Montessori

PROGRAMS

Playing and learning are equally important and reinforce one another.

Our preschool has both a Montessori room and a Playroom. We encourage students to take what they’ve discovered in one area and apply it in the other. In so doing, the social, emotional, academic and physical aspects of learning come together to benefit the whole child. Children choose their own activities while encouraged to participate in all aspects of our program. Read more about the Montessori philosophy.

“My son has benefitted from this program in so many ways, I can’t wait for my daughter to attend.”

—Megan Burns, parent
