If you think you’ve already got an over-the-top collection of your child’s school work, it’s probably a great time to start thinking about how you’re going to keep it organized as they continue through their school careers. There will be much more than straw necklaces and Styrofoam sewing that you’ll want to remember! This is just the beginning!

There are great school memory books that you can buy at Costco, and various online locations (amazon, indigo, etc.), but the option that has worked for our family is to create a school years time capsule. It is basically a memories book with as much space as you would like.

Give each child their own File box (available at Staples, and Your Dollarstore and More). Inside the box, designate a file for each year. You can start at preschool and add years as your child continues through school. On the front of each file you can create an information card with their grade, height, teachers’ name, and a few of their favourite things. Add samples of their work, ribbons from fair exhibits, badges from swimming, class photos…whatever you want! The great thing about this is that you can include a lot of memorabilia. The negative thing is that it takes up a lot of space. You won’t be keeping these in the living room for easy access!

Whatever method you choose, the key is to get started. Time goes by so quickly once your children are in school, and you don’t want to miss out on documenting any special moments ☺
